The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has defended the decision to host a IND vs SA Test in Delhi in November. As soon as the announcement was made, fans were quick to point out that pollution levels could play spoilsport in the game, especially in the month of November. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has dismissed the rumours, claiming that pollution does not happen every year.

BCCI not worried about pollution for IND vs SA Test

As per the schedule announced by the BCCI, the Indian cricket team will take on South Africa in the 1st Test between 14-18 November 2025. As per The Indian Express, BCCI secretary Saikia has claimed that the venue for the game was decided based om the rotation policy and that all stakeholders were informed about the decision.

“We have considered all factors and have gone by the rotation policy after discussing it with everyone. The pollution issue doesn’t happen every year,” BCCI secretary Saikia said.

DDCA confident of hosting game

Meanwhile, the DDCA has claimed that the Arun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi is located in a relatively open area. The association has claimed that the open area around which the venue is located makes sure that the air quality is better compared to other areas.

“The DDCA will take all measures possible to ensure players are comfortable when they play the Test match. Also, the Arun Jaitley Stadium is located in a relatively open area with more green area around. So the air quality is better than in most other areas,” DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma said.

The months of November and December are bound to see a spike in pollution levels in Delhi. Fog and stubble burning in nearby states have been attributed as reasons for the increase in the AQI levels.
