Tushar Deshpande won’t want to revisit that over anytime soon. The second over of the DC vs RR innings turned into a nightmare for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer as Abishek Porel took him apart with a calculated, fearless assault that yielded 23 runs. The Capitals, already off to a brisk start in the first over, found another gear as the left-hander teed off with a mix of power, placement, and intent.

Abhishek Porel show for DC
It started with a gift—a full toss on middle and off—which Porel nonchalantly lifted over mid-on for four. Deshpande looked rusty, and Porel was in no mood to let him settle. The second ball took the edge and raced past the third man, but the intent was clear. Then came the pick-up shot of the over: a length ball on the pads, whipped over square leg for six.
Porel was reading the lengths early, and Deshpande had no answers. A square drive for four followed, then a short ball pulled wide of long-on—another boundary. Even the final ball, a low full toss on the pads, was clipped away for a single to retain strike.

The over read: 4, 4, 6, 4, 4, 1. A bowler’s horror story, and a batter’s dream. Deshpande’s lines were erratic, his pace easy to line up, and his variations lacked bite. With no movement in the air or off the pitch, he was a sitting duck against a batter in the mood.
