India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has credited the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his amazing ability to hit sixes. Jaiswal, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, is gearing up to play Champions Trophy this season. If he gets into the playing XI, he will be making his debut in the ODI format. Jaiswal record for most sixes
Jaiswal made history in 2024 by smashing the most sixes in a bilateral Test series against England, hitting 26 sixes in five matches. This broke Rohit Sharma’s record of 19 sixes from 2019. He also broke the record for most sixes in a calendar year with 36 maximums, surpassing Brendon McCullum’s 33. When asked about his secret, Yashasvi Jaiswal thanked his IPL team, Rajasthan Royals, for their support. He told Forbes India ,“IPL has helped me a lot to improve my sixes and especially I would like to mention Zubin Bharucha sir, he has helped me a lot in my cricket from last so many years. I would also like to thank Rajasthan Royals, they have provided me a really nice setup that I can go and prepare well. So I can say that this is the contribution of a lot of people and then I also practice a lot to hit sixes,”.

He said, “This is the contribution of a lot of people and then I also practice a lot to hit sixes.” His hard work and the environment provided by his team have been important to his success. The IPL platform has allowed him to enhance his skills and gain confidence, helping him achieve these outstanding records.

Jaiswal on Champions Trophy inclusion
Jaiswal has been selected for the Indian team for the ODI series against England and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He is excited about his maiden ODI call-up and hopes to make the most of it. Jaiswal said, “Of course, I’m excited. I wish I will be a part of the one-day team. I’m excited, but let’s see, I will be in the present and whatever comes in front of me I will try to do that.” He is selected as the third opener, alongside Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. It will be interesting to see if he gets a chance to make his ODI debut in the series against England.
